Madam President
by: Lane Smith (2008)
This book is about a little girl that acts as though she is the president of the United States. This little girl wants to do all the duties that a president has in her world. She goes to press conferences, she attends meetings, and deals with emergencies. This is a great book to teach young students basic concepts about the president. The book talks about things that the president has to do on a daily basis.
I would love to use this book to introduce the judicial system in a lower level elementary classroom. It is a simple way to describe the duties of the president, and the power that they have. This book also has little pictures and references to past presidents. It would be a good book to have as a starter for a social studies lesson.
