The Giving Tree
by: Shel Silverstein (1992)
The Giving Tree is a classic that every student should have the opportunity to read. This is a wonderful book about a little boy and a tree. This little boy talks to the tree about everything in his life. The tree is there for everything, the tree gives everything it can for this little boy. When the little boy grows older he takes more and more from the tree over the years. This tree is willing to give all it has to the little boy, and eventually is cut down for the boy's benefit. In the end, the tree and the boy are together, old in age, but still best of friends in heart.
Every teacher should have this book in their classroom. Teachers should either read this book to their students, or encourage all their students to eventually read it. It teaches a wonderful lesson to give what you can, and be thankful for everything you receive. This is a book that I will 100% have in my classroom library. I would recommend this book to all readers.
